Do I get to keep the art I make in Art Therapy?
The answer to this question is a bit complicated and is one where art therapists themselves will enter into debate with one another about what is considered as best practice.
In my practice I look at the artwork as part of the process of therapy and as such an important element that may need to be brought forward at different places in the therapeutic journey.
So with that consideration, I request that the artwork remains in the therapy office (in a confidential and safe place) until the closing of the therapeutic relationship, at which point the artwork is either returned to the client, or if the client requests it is destroyed in a respectful manner.
