Do you talk in Art Therapy?
I love this question because it's a sometimes yes and sometimes no kind of an answer.
The long and the short of it is, when working with a trained art therapist they will create a treatment plan that uses visual images, art materials, and art making processes along with other therapeutic approaches, and therapeutic conversation.
So....Yes!
You will talk in Art Therapy.
**Most art therapists are trained as clinical counsellors and use those skills in the art therapy process.
The art created during art therapy essentially becomes a "third person" in the therapeutic relationship (client, counsellor and artwork) and has a voice.
The artwork created encourages thoughtful exploration of the inner self, in a manner that creates a connection between verbal conversation and non-verbal self expression.
